I'm Sure We'd Be Great Friends

Do you remember the scene the movie "Notting Hill," where William's sister has a surprise meeting with Anna?  Honey rambles on about how her and Anna could be friends.

"Oh God, this is one of those key moments in life, when it's possible you can be really, genuinely cool - and I'm failing 100%. I absolutely and totally and utterly adore you and I think you're the most beautiful woman in the world and more importantly I genuinely believe and have believed for some time now that we can be best friends. What do YOU think?"

I have those moments all the time.  Not that I'm meeting celebrities, but when I watch TV or read someone's blog.  Right now I'm watching the Food Network and I think Trish Yearwood and I could be great friends.  I also think the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond and I could hang out, cook some yummy food, and tool around the ranch.  I started reading Ree's blog a few years ago, so I feel like I know her.

I also think quite a few of the other woman, whose blogs I read, could be friends.  When you read about someone's life for years, you feel like you know them and could go for lunch or drinks, and send them Christmas Cards.  But my blog crushes are all over the US and sadly I will probably never meet any of them in person.  Too bad, I'm sure we'd be great friends.

You Can't Go Wrong With Cinnamon

I love food, all kinds of food, and my girlish figure can confirm this.  One thing I really love, CINNAMON.  Cinnamon rolls, snickerdoodle cookies, coffee cake, and the one thing I could eat every evening with a cup of tea, cinnamon sugar toast.
Last night I had to make a trip to the grocery store and actually wasn't in a hurry so I stopped at Dunkie and grabbed a coffee.  Down the second aisle of the grocery store I spotted these, imagine my delight.

I think what sucked me in was the writing on the top corner of the package, beckoning me to buy it, "DELICIOUS SNACK serve with cheese, coffee, or tea."  Coffee, you say?  Well I've got a fresh cup of Dunkie right here.  Into the cart it went.
Usually when I get a coffee before going to the store, it means I will take my time and go up and down every aisle, not tonight.  I quickly grabbed the rest of the things from my list and headed to the car.
I'm going to preface what I did next, so I don't look like a total pig.  I hadn't eaten since breakfast and it was 7 pm.  With that said, I unloaded the groceries into the car, got in the front seat, and then proceeded to rifle through the bags to find my cinnamon treasure.  I tore open the package and pulled out a nicely wrapped snack.

I thought, if they went through the trouble to individually wrap these up, they are going to be delicious!!!!  I unwrapped the wax paper around my cinnamon treat and found a crisp, round, cracker, covered in cinnamon sugar, and looking yummy.

I took the first bite and could immediately taste cinnamon sugar.  Then it hit me, the after taste was horrendous.  Now, you could pretty much offer me a turd covered in cinnamon sugar and I would graciously accept your offer, but this, I imagine, tasted worse.  The extra virgin olive oil gave my treat a bitter, nasty taste.  I suppose I deserved this, since I basically was "sneaking" these treats because we just started watching what we eat and these were going to be my secret indulgence.
When I got home and unpacked the bags, I opened up the package to take a few pictures, and can you believe I fell for that cinnamon again.  One more bite, maybe I just got a bad one....Nope, the second bite was just as bad as the first.  I yanked them off the counter and into the garbage they went.
I can say, this experience has not changed my love for cinnamon.  I will continue to be a sucker for monkey bread, cinnamon pretzels, spiced cinnamon nuts, sticky buns.......

Present Time

Anytime is a good time for present time, right?  I recently explained "present time" to someone and now I will explain it to you.  Present time is when you buy a gift for someone, that you believe they will like, and they say they like it whether they do or not.  One stipulation is that you must put a little bit of thought into said gift.  Present time is not buying a gift or gifts off a list someone gave to you.  Although, saying you want something far in advance of present time, or that you like something is not considered a list.
I have to admit present time on Valentine's Day was good for me and I hope it was good for you.  If it wasn't you should go out and get yourself something nice.  Here's a few suggestions if you need a little help.

Let's start with jewelry.  I'm going to  give you lots of choices, so I'm foregoing descriptions just click on the links and get yourself something shiny.

Fish On Fridays

I have been super lazy today and once again have a million things I should be doing.  One of the million things is to clean the kitchen after last nights Valentine's dinner.  We made pierogi with kraut and potatoes, steak, Hungarian sausage, and Polish sausage.  We got the sausage from The Keego Harbor Specialty Sausage Co. and it was delish.
Let me say I'm glad we had the caveman dinner of meat, meat, and more meet, since today is the first Friday of Lent.  I'm thinking tuna noodle casserole is the answer.  I didn't want to use a cream soup, so I'll probably try out this recipe with the cooking cream.  There was another recipe that used regular cream cheese, but that made a 9x13 pan, which is too much for the two of us.

Creamy Tuna Noodle Casserole

Ingredients
1 tub (10 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Original Cooking Creme
2 cups egg noodles, cooked
2 cans (5 oz. each)chunk light tuna in water, drained, flaked
1 cup frozen peas
1 can (4 oz.) sliced mushrooms, undrained
8 Ritz crackers, crushed (about 1/3 cup)
1 Tbsp. butter, melted

Directions
1.  HEAT oven to 350 degrees F.
2.  COMBINE first 5 ingredients in 1-1/2-quart casserole; cover.
3.  BAKE 20 min. Meanwhile, mix cracker crumbs and butter.
4.  STIR casserole; top with crumbs. Bake, uncovered, 5 min. or until topping is golden brown

I will use fresh sauteed mushroom instead of the canned.  I might switch the topping to potato chips also.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

My Funny Valentine

On the old blog I did a top ten list for holiday gifts.  I should have made one for Valentine's Day since I've found lots of cool gift ideas in the past week, but here it is one day before and it's too late for all that nonsense.  I will share one thing I found on Etsy that I just had to buy.  I'm a little bit of a smart ass, so this t-shirt is perfect for my boyfriend.

I also found a million things I would like for myself, so maybe I'll do a top ten list of what to buy post Valentine's day if you didn't get a good gift or one at all.

Super Bowl!!!! and the Secret Ingredient

Don't let the exclamation marks in the title fool you, the only reason I'm excited for  Super Bowl is we get to make yummy food.  Last Sunday someone asked me who was in the Super Bowl and I honestly had no clue.  I'm more of a college football girl.

So let's go over our pre-menu, which is subject to change pending the trip to the grocery store.
  • ham roll-ups with green onions (maybe a few with pickles too)
  • jalapeno popper dip
  • spinach dip
  • guacamole (I love our guacamole)
  • salsa
  • pulled pork
  • veggie tray
  • sliders
  • an Oreo dessert of some sort probably brownies, yum
There will be pictures and a post, since I've really been slacking on my blogging responsibilities. I may even reveal the secret ingredient to our guacamole!
